Slow Genius

I think I’m becoming a slow genius. It takes years and years but over time I am becoming a little bit smarter every day. Just last week I was picking up the camper to winterize it and I had pulled a few things out of the back of the van before I started and left the door open. When I got in to start backing up and trying to line up the hitch with the tongue, I looked over my shoulder and I could actually see the hitch.

Why didn’t I think of this before! I backed right up to the trailer on the first try, hooked it up and I was gone. I’ve been doing this for years, backing in, missing, pulling up and turning, backing in and missing. Not going far enough, going too far, all that stuff. I usually find myself hooking these things up alone and it’s just that much more difficult.

I’ve had the van I’m driving now for only two years and it’s the first vehicle I’ve had with a clear shot to the hitch since there’s no bench seat in the back but why did it take me two years to figure this out. It is either incredible (or sad) how happy this makes me; it truly is the simple things in life that make every day special. I guess it’s just going to take a bit more time but eventually I will figure out how to grow that third arm. Then we’ll see who the genius is.
