It's Groundhog Day! The one day every year when we get to watch a bunch of lunatics get up before sunrise, drag a groundhog out of a fake stump and shove him in front of the waiting cameras to predict the coming of spring. With a ridiculous poem they confirm that spring is only six weeks away or we will have winter for another month and a half.
I can look out my window right now and determine the same thing but depending on which side of my house I'm standing I may not see my shadow. The fact that Puxatawney Phil is pulled out before sunrise so they can get him on all of the earliest news broadcasts tells me that this is an unnecessary project. We all know that it will start to warm up sometime in March so let the poor animal sleep.
Besides, I have a friend with a birthday today, I talk to him every year and base my weather predictions on his shadow status. I'll let you know what comes of it but I'm pretty sure it will be about six weeks either way.
