I've always been a strong advocate of having snow in winter, especially before Christmas but after the new year starts, something changes. Now that we have another dusting of snow on the ground to cover up the crappy gray/brown look of the area, it helps a little but I think it's time for winter to be over. There's a huge build up to have a white Christmas and this year we did, but after the foot of snow that was on the ground melted and all of the decorations have been put away, it can be spring now.
Once Christmas is past it takes all of the steam out of winter. I know it's not even close to done yet and there will be plenty of cold days with and without snow but when the first melt comes, I'm ready for it to be over. It could have something to do with our recent trip to Florida and walking around in shorts on New Year's Day and then coming back home to brown grass and dirty gray ice piles all over the place but I wouldn't want to live down there either. I like the change of seasons.
Today's snowfall does look nice and there's a pretty winter landscape outside my front window again. I do like a nice heavy snowfall and if we got another one I would be happy with it but as it always happens around here, it will melt a few days later and be back to crappy gray. So I say bring on the sun, let's start greening this place up again. In a few weeks that groundhog will pop his head out and tell us spring is only six weeks away or we have another month and a half of winter. Either way, I'm ready.
